Baragon vs. Barugon

Everyone knows Baragon and Barugon are not the same Kaiju.  Baragon is the sub-terranean digging monster from Toho’s Frankenstein Conquers the World (1965).  He also appeared in the superb GMK: Giant Monster All Out Attack (2001). Barugon is the freezing monster from Daiei’s Gamera vs. Barugon (aka War of the Monsters, 1966). Barugon has more fire power (with a rainbow ray, and chameleon-like tongue, that sprays a sub-zero liquid) than Baragon, who has a glowing nose horn, but I’m not sure what he does.  I guess he leaps around and can dig.  He causes earthquakes by digging.  Baragon has ears too.  Here’s a comparison of the two:

It’s fairly obvious that Daiei was copying Toho’s creation.  I like both films though!  Now, off to work…
