Saguaro Cactus Monster
Back in the 80’s, I watched a Tom Baker Dr. Who episode where the alien was a barrel-head cactus named Meglos. Actually, Meglos was the last of the Zolfa-Thuran, an ancient race of spiny beings and it gave Tom Baker the prickly treatment. This past weekend, while photographing wildlife in Saguaro National Park, Tucson, I noticed several dead Saguaros. These things are creepy as hell. They serve as habitat and shelter for birds, lizards and invertebrates, but they’re none-the-less really bizarre. They remind me of scarecrows. They would make a terrific monster for a short film.
