Matango triffidii?

I found a strange fungus growing as an epiphyte on an old oak tree in a cemetery.  The morphology is symmetrical, with two prominent spore-yielding bodies opposite a thoracic-like stalky midsection.  The holdfast consists of three petal-like appendages that were firmly rooted under the oak’s bark.  I think it is a Triffid or perhaps an alien pod vessel.  What do you think?

Actually the top image is a hoax!  These are Barometer Earthstars and they do look alien.  I rotated the image and mashed it up with Pixelmator software.
