Mattel Squishies (1971)
Anyone remember these weird little wax-filled rubber figurine toys? I had “Oddbod” (the Troll on the right) as a child, but took a steak knife to him in search of a better understanding of the gooey interior. Flex Armstrong met a similar fate. I was a very inquisitive child. They’re Mattel Squishies!
I picked up this pair at a curio shop in Saugatuck, Michigan. Originally they were malleable and you could pinch these guys into different facial contortions. Over the years they tend to get hard and the rubber splits.
However, these are still pliable, but they are 42 years old so I won’t squeeze them too much. Squishies! Man, I haven’t seen these in years.
They don’t make ’em like they used to!
