I had this kit as a kid. The reissue is sweet. Here’s a work in progress.

How to Build a Martian

Pegasus 8th Scale Martian Kit

My buddy Dave gave me this way cool kit as a gift.  Here’s a work in progress:

Martian_Second Coat

After the basecoat I just sprayed on another few coats of Krylon tan paint (used for plastic lawn furnature).  I then added several wet diluted (wash) coats of red-orange and reptilicus green freaky acrylic paint. For the arteries I used a metallic silver marker.  The triocular eyes were painted from behind with good old Tester’s enamel.  In the end I sprayed it with about five coats of Krylon poly.  I included a glow lamp behind the eye socket, but the effect was disappointing and the Martian really doesn’t have a glowing eyeset (the war machine camera does though!).  Here’s a final taken with Voightlander Nokton 50mm f1.5 wideopen… Touched up a bit with CamerBag2.

And a shot of the Martian on it’s homeplanet…

Check out this cool model kit my buddy Mike put together and painted. Pretty good likeness! Compare to the real thing.

Gotengo / Atragon Diorama

Posted in Kaiju, Model Kits with tags , on January 22, 2013 by MONSTERMINIONS

I built this diorama a few year’s back using a store-bought Gotengo kit, a resin mosasaur I purchased at Wonderfest, some foam cut to various shapes, quick-setting poly-water, texturing debris and scrap wood. I thought it would be neat having the super submarine battling a realistic prehistoric reptile at the marine surface! I probably put around 20 hours into this thing. I’m itching to build some other kits. Maybe Gotengo vs. John W. Campbell’s “The Thing”. I think I could base the shape-shifting monster on an amalgamation of different marine life forms.

Ma. K. S.A.F.S. Mark I (1/20th Scale Kit)

Posted in Model Kits with tags , on May 3, 2012 by MONSTERMINIONS

I built this model kit several year’s ago.  It’s one of the Maschinen Krieger S.A.F.S. Mercenary Corps, but I forgot which one.  It’s possibly the Raptor or Mark I.  It stands about 3-inches tall.  Here’s conceptual art.

Pretty sweet.
