Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)

There’s a scene in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), where harpooner Ned Land drinks the pickling solution preserving various marine specimens (Peter Lorre: “They’re priceless!”). One jar contains a Flabellina oculina. A what?

So, what did Ned Land swallow? A sea slug! These are marine nudibranch (Latin – Nudus, meaning naked, and Greek – Brankhia, meaning gills) gastropods. Flabellina is a type (genus) of nudibranchs.
